3.4 out of 5 Stars Hwy 55 will always be the place to go for good frozen custard. They really can do no wrong in that department. Their non-desert food isn’t bad either, just not anything mind-blowing. .2 deduction for the chili cheese tater tots being wimpy. I really do love any combination of chili, cheese, and potatoes, but this just didn’t do it. 

3.1 out of 5 stars It works in a pinch. Definitely not the best Chinese food I’ve ever had and the guy working the front wasn’t exactly the most friendly. But, as the only Chinese place in Kenansville, it’ll do when you’re craving egg rolls and pork fried rice or really anything else remotely Chinese, as it’s a huge menu.

4.2 out of 5 stars Wonderful Mexican food with a huge menu and huge servings! Seriously, I felt like a pig when they brought out my “appetizer” (Carne Asada Fries) and then my burrito (San Jose Burrito). I made three meals out of it – not kidding. And the horchata was wonderful! .3 deduction because there were a couple of things on the menu I asked about that they either didn’t have or were out of the stuff to make. 

  3.8 out of 5 stars Again, it’s a fast-food joint, but man, do they have some good ham biscuits! And those BoBerry biscuits…don’t even get me started!

3.9 out of 5 stars Ok, despite the misleading name, this place wasn’t bland! It’s a small menu that changes daily and it’s a pretty standard selection, but it’s definitely authentic homemade southern food. I’m giving a particular shout out to the awesome hushpuppies. They were a little different than most I’d had before – bigger and something was different about the way they were fried, but I loved them!

  4.2 out of 5 stars Small hot bar inside a meat store. I went on a Friday and was able to get the spaghetti – which was really good. I probably would have gotten a bigger size if I’d known how good it was going to be! They also had excellent lemonade. There’s nothing bad to say. Just go in knowing it’s going to be a small selection and there’s no seating. I didn’t wanna be the weirdo who sat in the dark parking lot and scarfed down their food, so I drove the 25 minutes home before digging in.

  3 out of 5 stars GIANT southern food buffet. Seriously, my Pappaw would probably see it and think he’d died and gone to Heaven. The food isn’t too bad. It reminded me a bit of sitting down at my Granny’s kitchen table on a Sunday afternoon. 1.4 point deduction for almost none of the waiters wearing masks (and let’s be honest, a buffet is already pushing it) and the food not being labeled. Because of that, I accidentally sampled some kind of mystery meat dish that nearly broke my teeth. Seriously, what is this? Was I even supposed to chew it? It should have had a warning that you were risking your dental well-being. I’ve just taken to referring to it as a jawbreaker. 

  4.7 out of 5 stars Forgot trying every restaurant in the county, I’m making a goal to try every item on their menu. The place looks like a hole in the wall, but it has seriously good Thai food. (I tried the Pad Thai and the Drunken Man noodles, and the curry is next on my list!) Probably the 2nd or 3rd best Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to. (Though 1st place will always be reserved for Amazing Thailand in King, NC)

  NOTE: Yeah, I know I need to take pictures…I’m working on getting better at it. Until then, use your mind to visualize!  NOTE: If there’s more than one location in the county (like some of the fast-food restaurants), I’m only trying the one that’s nearest to me. 2.5 out of 5 stars. It was Arby’s. You get exactly what you’re expecting and nothing more. 1/2 a point deducted because the drive-through was in a confusing spot and because I have an unnecessary hate against gas station/restaurant combos. They should not exist.
